Koc University - Course Equivalents.xls List of Koç courses that have been approved with Drexel equivalents. If you would like to take courses that are not listed, you will need to get equivalents approved by the appropriate department at Drexel. For example, if you want to take a sociology course for Drexel credit, the Sociology Department at Drexel must pre- approve the course and equivalency.

Grading: Students are taught and graded by Turkish faculty at Koç University. Grades are noted as "CR/NCR" on their transcript and will NOT affect their GPA. In order to receive CR students must earn a "C" or above at the host institution. The goal is to be a full-time student at the host institution while also taking the equivalent of a full-time load at Drexel.

Fall and Spring Program Calendar:
Koç is a semester based school. Students should prepare to make adjustments and be flexible in fitting this program into their Drexel schedule. Due to the need for cycle and program changes the study abroad office urges you to begin planning 12-18 months in advance

* Fall semester: September - early January.
* Spring semester (Drexel's winter term): early February - May.

Students going in the fall term have two options:

1) arrange with professors to take Koç final exams early (early exams are at the discretion of individual faculty members. Neither Drexel nor Koç can guarantee that all professors will allow this)
2) Students can change their co-op cycle to Winter/Spring. This would allow students to take Koç final exams in early January, and be on co-op for winter and spring terms. Keep in mind, this option would require an independent co-op search as well as a cycle adjustment.

Students going in the winter term will need to begin their spring/summer co-op late.

The Experience

Exciting events start as soon as you arrive at Koç. During your orientation you will receive your Smart Card for access into places such as the library, and also course materials from your advisor. The following day, you will get a free tour of Istanbul visiting sites such as the Haghia Sophia, and the Basilica Cistern!  Koç has a variety of extra curricular activities and clubs to make your stay in Turkey a great one.

On-campus housing is available in single, double, triple and quadruple rooms. Internet, cable-TV and phone-services are available in each room. There are twelve laundry rooms and five kitchens in seventeen dorm buildings. At the ground floor of each building, there are computer rooms accessible to all students. In each dorm building, 7 to 10 students live on the same floor. Rooms include: refrigerator, bed, closet, desk, chair, bed stand, light, pillow and blanket. Students must bring their own towel, pillow case and sheets.

Students are required to obtain a visa for entry into Turkey. This process may take 6-8 weeks so students should act early.

Financial Information

Estimated Program Costs
Review the Estimated Study Abroad Costs page for a list of approximated program expenses.

Tuition & Financial Aid
This is a Drexel sponsored program, thus your Drexel tuition and financial aid remain the same during the term abroad. Students may also want to submit a revised budget to Drexel Central to see if additional funding may be available.

Students who receive Federal Work Study should consider applying for the Study Abroad Online Journalist work study position (only available to students after acceptance).

Scholarships
Those interested in seeking additional funding should review Scholarship & Funding Opportunities. Remember that scholarship deadlines may be much earlier than study abroad deadlines, so plan accordingly.

For more information on these and many other scholarship opportunities, visit our Scholarships page.

Safety and Security

PENDING DREXEL UNIVERSITY TRAVEL WARNING REVIEW COMMITTEE APPROVAL

Turkey currently has a State Department Travel Warning.

All students who wish to participate in the program are required to read the United States Department of State Travel Warning and will propose their travel to the University TRR for review. Students should discuss the review process with their study abroad advisor. In addition, all students are strongly advised to purchase travel insurance when purchasing plane tickets should the United States Department of State Travel Warning change in such a way that would require Drexel University to cancel the program.
