Program Options: Thanks to its trimester calendar, the exchange at ABS is available to LeBow students during the Fall and Winter terms.
As part of the application process, students must obtain course approvals from the relevant departments in LeBow for the courses they intend to complete while studying at Aston. It is recommended that students approve more courses than they intend to take while studying abroad as course schedules can change or conflict or students may not receive all of their top choices. Students should primarily select elective courses for study abroad and should work closely with their academic advisor in LeBow on the course selections.
Students are taught and graded by Aston faculty. Grades are noted as "CR/NCR" on their transcript and will NOT affect their GPA. In order to receive CR students must earn the equivalent of a "B" or above at the host institution. The goal is to be a full-time student at the host institution while also taking the equivalent of a full-time load at Drexel. Students studying for a quarter at Aston will complete three courses to maintain their full-time status at LeBow. A full course load at Aston is between 20-30 ECTS credits per semester.
With around 9,000 students, Aston University is a lively, diverse, close-knit community with great academic support and social facilities. Its campus in the center of Birmingham gives students the best of both worlds, a green, well-equipped, friendly campus in the heart of a vibrant city. There is plenty of nightlife both on campus and 5 minutes walk in the center of Birmingham. For more about life in Birmingham visit: http://www1.aston.ac.uk/birmingham/
Before the start of classes at ABS, all exchange students in the Fall term attend a special two week program of activities and events to help get settled into life at Aston. The first, "Aston Welcomes Internationals", focuses on students from outside the UK. The second week offers a program of events from both the Business School and the Students Guild. Students who begin in the Winter term will have a shorter orientation program. ABS has a large international population and is experienced in welcoming students to its campus and helping them to adjust to British life.
Due to the very high demand for on-campus accommodation, the availability of places in university residences is extremely limited, especially in the Fall term. Students may review the information on university accommodation at: http://www1.aston.ac.uk/study/accommodation
, but students participating on the exchange should expect to live off-campus. Students can gain information on off-campus housing options at: http://www.astonstudentpad.co.uk/Home
The Students Guild is the main entertainment venue on campus and is home to a range of facilities and support services. There is also a huge array of clubs and organizations to join, giving students plenty of opportunity to try something different and meet new people. For more info about the Students Guild visit: www.astonguild.org.uk
Aston also has excellent sports and recreation facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports. There are a wide range of sports clubs and societies which are open to all students. For a full list of clubs, please visit: http://www.astonguild.org.uk/studentactivities
