As the sport, leisure, and recreation industries continue to expand globally, it is imperative that future sport managers to understand the fundamental differences and opportunities within the European sport management sectors. This program will provide students with the baseline knowledge necessary for a career in European sport management. Students will learn about contemporary issues in European sport management, matters related to governance, and management essentials of European/international sport.
The course starts with an eight day-long ICA hosted by the Centre for Law and Economics of Sport (CDES) at the University of Limoges, in France. Here, students will be introduced to theoretical and practical concepts that will be reinforced throughout the course using a comparative approach delivered by CDES faculty. The ICA will combine on-site coursework with cultural events and international experiences. Students will travel to Paris to meet with French sport management officials and local experts as part of creating a foundation on which concepts will be presented throughout the course. The class will include pre and post-travel elements, and will combine on-site coursework with cultural events and international experiences. By participating in this program, students will:
Credit/Registration: Students will be registered for SMT T280 European Sport Management 4 credits as part of their fall term course load. Students must leave room for the credits in their fall credit load when registering for summer term or will be billed for credits exceeding the 20 credit maximum.
Fall Term Class: The course begins with the ICA in France and will continue fall term as an online hybrid format with 4 in person classes and weekly modules on BBLearn. Participation and attendance is required.
